Birmingham City manager Garry Monk has praised the Blues owners ahead of the club making more summer transfers, as he gave an update on the progress he is making in terms of new additions.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, the former Leeds and Swansea manager was in high spirits and spoke insightfully about the next steps he has planned this summer.

"I am definitely mindful that this club does not need a massive turnover,” he said. “I have spent a lot of the summer sat with the owner and senior board, they have been brilliant, they have been very open minded.

“We have talked through what they felt were the mistakes from before, having huge transitions doesn't help the situation."

Monk is looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer as well as a couple of others in key positions, but insisted he will be overseeing a 'huge transition' and admitted that too many clubs rush into big overhauls, saying you 'see it time and time again in this league'.

Birmingham are hoping for a better campaign this time out after struggling for the last two seasons, narrowly avoiding relegation on both occasions. Some big spending in the last few seasons has not paid dividends, and Monk will be very aware of the fact he needs to be careful and meticulous in any signings he does make.
