Birmingham City boss Garry Monk has reiterated that his playing squad are still in a confident mood ahead of this weekend’s clash with Leeds United.

The Blues were hit with a nine-point deduction recently that has sent them plummeting towards the Championship’s relegation fight, with that coinciding with five consecutive defeats.

This weekend, Monk’s side welcome promotion-chasing Leeds to St Andrew’s, with the two sides battling at very different ends of the table.

Despite that, Monk was quick to talk up the mood within his camp.

“I can only give you my honest view, the view from inside the changing room is that these lads are not afraid of adversity,” he stated to the club’s official media.

“The confidence levels are still there, recent performances have warranted points, we have just been unlucky, we know what we need to do."

Earlier in the season Blues won at Elland Road to end a winless start to the season, with Che Adams’ brace enough to set the side on their way to a 2-1 victory.

Whilst it was Birmingham’s first win of the season, it was also Leeds’ first defeat of the campaign.

The Verdict

You can’t fault the attitude of this Birmingham squad or Monk.

They could’ve stuck their bottom lip out about the point deduction and plummet down the table, but Monk is trying to raise spirits and pull them clear of trouble.

If he can start getting results to match his attitude, Birmingham will be fine, no matter how tough this weekend is.
