Birmingham City boss Garry Monk says he has faith in his side's character to bounce back with a win when they face Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Bristol City at St. Andrew's last weekend with a Famara Diedhiou header putting an end to their unbeaten home record, but Monk remains confident in his team.

"We have had a hard week training and are looking to respond at Rovers," he told his pre-match press conference.

"Everyone is 100% committed to the cause this season, their character and the way they have gone about it to compete in every game is there to see.

"The players deserve a lot of credit for that."

Birmingham have had a far better season than many expected of them and currently sit in ninth place in the Championship table with 21 games played.

With a transfer embargo looming over them in the summer, they were tipped to be battling at the bottom of the league before the season began, but the form of the likes of Lukasz Jutkiewicz and Che Adams has helped change that.

A win on Saturday could see them climb to within three points of Middlesbrough, who currently occupy the final spot in the top six.

The Verdict

The Blues' character has been their driving force this season and this match seems like a crucial test of that.

A strong performance and their season could still end in success, but if they let the defeat to the Robins get them down then it could quickly fall apart.

You have to fancy Monk to be able to galvanise his side, however.
