Birmingham City face a massive make-or-break summer ahead.

After narrowly avoiding the drop on the final day of last season, it is time for the Blues to start flirting with relegation and move up the table towards the play-off zone.

With the core squad at Garry Monk's disposal, all Birmingham need is more consistency and a few more players to add to the first-team to really kick on and compete at the other end of the table.

Monk will now be in charge of recruitment for the first time since taking over at St Andrew's and there is some money to spend, especially if they can sell a few unwanted players like David Stockdale.

Here are three players that Monk needs to sort out moves for as soon as possible to strengthen his Birmingham squad before other clubs swoop for these targets.

Pedersen, 23, has been on Birmingham's radar for some time now.

The former Denmark youth international is a long-term Monk target and they need to stop messing about and just complete this deal to add depth in that department.

Birmingham will need to add some creativity in the midfield ranks and Peterborough United star Maddison is the perfect man for the job.

The 24-year-old consistently hits high numbers in goals and assists in League One and last season's tally of 10 goals and 21 assists should convince Monk that he is Championship ready.

The Blues recently joined Leeds United in the race for free agent Hernandez, who recently left Hull City.

Before the Whites nip in, Birmingham should go all out to sign the 27-year-old Uruguay international, who hit eight in eight starts this season and previously scored 20 league goals in the second tier.
