Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough have had a £4.5 million offer for Brentford’s winger Jota rejected.

Following on from that, reports from Sportslens are speculating that Boro will be upping their offer for the Spaniard with Brentford holding out for a fee nearing the £8 million mark.

Here at FLW, we think Monk needs to get this deal done and dusted as soon as possible or else he faces the risk of losing out on the player.

The Sun reported in it's print edition (page 50) on Wednesday that fellow Championship club Hull City are also seriously interested in bringing Jota into their side.

Following the 26-year-old returning to Brentford after his loan at Spanish side Eibar, he managed an impressive 12 goals and five assists in 21 games.

17 goals in 21 games on your return to English football isn’t a bad return at all which makes all the interest surrounding the player more than understandable.

However, given that Hull City have just accepted an offer believed to be in the region of £16.5 million for their star midfielder Sam Clucas, Leonid Slutsky will have plenty of money to play with in the transfer market soon.

Should Monk not sort a deal out before Clucas’ sale then he could miss out on one of his top targets this summer.

Hull will be able to offer Brentford more money for the player and most likely more money to the player in weekly wages.

Slutsky is going to be in need of a creative replacement for the departing Clucas and there is no doubt that Jota would suit the role well.

Boro fans could live to regret their manager not acting quick enough if they miss out on the Spanish winger.
