It has been a bit of a mixed season for Birmingham City with the Blues largely playing very well but still ending up in a relegation scrap.

Before the campaign began, Garry Monk's side were tipped as a team who could be battling at the bottom of the league, but up until March they were pushing hard for the play-offs.

A nine-point deduction, however, saw them plummet down the division and right into that predicted relegation battle.

But a win against Leeds United as well as picking points against Sheffield United and Ipswich Town have seen them move six-points clear of the dreaded drop.

It has been in attack where the Blues have shone, with Che Adams and Lukasz Jutkiewicz forming one of the division's most deadly partnerships.

Between them, they have notched 34 goals and provided 13 assists. Following them in the scoring charts in centre-back Michael Morrison with six goals, showing just how important they have been.

One player whom more will have been expected from heading into the campaign, however, is Spanish winger Jota.

The 27-year-old has long established himself as a slick attacking menace in the second-tier and although he has provided an admirable seven assists so far, in front of goal he has been shoddy, notching just twice in 36 appearances.

He has shown flashes of the brilliant player he can be but, in all honesty, they have been far too infrequent and is seriously struggling to justify his £4.05million price-tag.

His threat has never come in front of goals during his time at St. Andrews, scoring just seven in his 70 appearances but having found the net 23 times in 78 appearances for previous club Brentford, Monk will be keen to see him increase production and do it soon.

With no embargoes set to be holding them back this summer, the Blues will be free to sign players at will and if Jota does not show signs of improvement, he could well find himself replaced before the start of next season.
