Garry Monk has a healthy looking squad at Middlesbrough, and the 38-year old has started to make some impressive additions already this summer, as he looks to guide the Riverside club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Boro have announced that they will have Jonny Howson and Cyrus Christie in their squad heading into the 2017/18 campaign, with the duo giving Monk excellent options in central midfield and at right-back respectively.

However, one area Monk will want to strengthen, and must now prioritise, is in attack, with Boro in desperate need of a new striker this summer.

Nottingham Forest’s Britt Assombalonga has been linked, but his signature is likely to cost Boro around £15m, with Mark Warburton’s side calling all the shots in any potential deal.

Monk must find a prolific striker before the start of August, or risk his Boro side struggling in the Championship next season, just as they did in the top-flight last year.

Boro finished the 2016/17 season having scored just 27 goals from their 38 fixtures, which was the worst record in the Premier League during that particular campaign.

Patrick Bamford and Rudy Gestede offer Monk able options in the Championship, but the pair both struggled for goals last season and Monk will be actively looking for a replacement in the coming month.

The business Monk and Boro are doing is excellent, but having secured the service of Howson and Christie, it is time attentions turn to recruiting a striker. Or the Teessiders run the risk of finding the Sky Bet Championship a struggle next season.
