According to the Sun, Middlesbrough are considering a £3m bid for French full-back, Steven Moreira.

Garry Monk looks set to continue his summer recruitment at the Riverside Stadium, and wants the 22-year-old right-back in his squad ahead of the Sky Bet Championship season.

The 38-year old is looking to reshape his squad ahead of their return to the Championship, and despite already signing Cyrus Christie this summer to add to his options at right-back, Monk is interested in Moreira.

Moreira would hand Monk a competitive option in defence, with the Lorient defender a former French under-21 international.

The right-back made 63 senior appearances for Rennes between 2013 and 2016, before moving to Lorient, where he featured regularly last season.

Moreira made 30 appearances across all competitions for the French outfit during the 2016/17 campaign, but could not prevent Lorient suffering relegation from Ligue 1.

Having already opened his chequebook to sign Christie and Jonny Howson last week, Monk looks set to continue his summer spending spree, as he attempts to lure both Moreira and Britt Assombalonga to the Riverside Stadium.

Boro appear to have won the race to sign Nottingham Forest’s Assombalonga, but will have to pay £14m to their Championship rivals to secure his signature.
