Marvin Johnson is being lined up as a potential summer signing by Birmingham, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Middlesbrough winger was signed by Garry Monk when he was at the club, but his departure has seen his playing time dramatically reduce. Therefore, a move away would be the best for his career and Monk is naturally interested.

Johnson made 17 league appearances for Boro, but only two of them came under Pulis for a combined total of 17 minutes. He scored once and assisted two in the league, with a clear preference for playing in a forward position based on his performances. He joined the club from League One side Oxford United, but had little issue adapting to the league.

The Verdict

The 27-year-old would be a smart acquisition by Monk because he knows the player well and the wings are a problem area for the Blues. He would add a credible threat from wide areas to add to Monk's attacking options. They need to diversify their attack by bringing in new personnel because they had severe issues last season with 38 league goals, which was the joint lowest in the division.

This move obviously makes sense for the player because he gets to stay in the Championship while also solving his playing time issues because Monk knows him well, so he is likely to play him consistently.
