Sheffield Wednesday travel to Luton Town tomorrow evening looking for only their second win in nine league matches.

The Owls have gone from third place in the Championship table before Christmas to 11th and six points outside the play-off places, following five defeats in their last eight league games.

Wednesday's next five fixtures present a perfect opportunity for the Owls to claw back up the table, with all five of their next opponents currently below the Owls in the league table.

Manager Garry Monk has not ruled out the Owls making the play-offs and told the Yorkshire Post on Monday evening that it is something that is still a possibility.

"As you see with the league, that is a possibility (play-offs), so we need to fight and push all the way for that – that is the ambition – but there is also a bigger picture," Monk said. "We have spoken with the players, they understand it, it is fighting for that future now."

"We have let ourselves down in the last month, but there is no reason for us not to come and have a big push in these remaining games of the season," the 40-year-old admitted.

On his side's performance in the 1-1 draw with Barnsley, Monk told the Yorkshire Post that: "We showed threat when we had the right composure but we did not show enough as a team all the way through the game."

A win at Luton tomorrow evening will be crucial if the Owls are to get themselves out of this poor run of form and push towards a play-off finish.

The injury to top-scorer Steven Fletcher certainly hasn't helped Monk's side in recent weeks, but Josh Windass' debut goal on Saturday certainly shows Wednesday are more than capable of climbing the table. The Verdict  Monk is certainly right to say that his side needs to show the ambition and that the play-offs are still a possibility for his side. It would be crazy for anyone to rule out the Owls for a top-six finish, given how unpredictable the Championship can be, and with 15 games to go the Owls are certainly not out of it yet. They embark on a run of games on Wednesday against teams lower down the table than them and should look to take advantage of this situation and kick on to push up the table. Wednesday fans will be hoping that this season they can reach the play-offs after finishing 15th and 12th respectively since their last play-off appearance in 2017.
