Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk has admitted that he is keen to use Adam Reach as a winger rather than a central midfielder this season.

The 40-year-old, who was appointed by Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri earlier this month, got off to the perfect start on Sunday by securing a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

During this clash, Reach played in the hole just behind striker Steven Fletcher who incidentally gave Wednesday the lead at the John Smith's Stadium before Sam Winnall sealed all three points in the second-half.

Whilst the former Middlesbrough man illustrated some signs of promise in this particular role, he has predominately featured as a left midfielder during his career.

Yet with Kadeem Harris performing superbly on the wing in recent weeks, Reach has been forced to play out of position.

Speaking to The Star about how he wants to utilise the 26-year-old, Monk said: "I have already spoken with Adam.

"He will primarily be a wide player for us and it is where he is most effective.

"But in certain situations where we feel it can benefit us, he can play in other positions.

"The main aim is for Adam to be a wide player.

"That is where I think his biggest strength is."

Reach will be aiming to help Wednesday secure victory when they face Fulham at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The Owls could move up to third in the Championship standings depending on results elsewhere.

The Verdict

With Monk clearly illustrating where he thinks Reach should be operating, it will be intriguing to see how big of an impact the midfielder will have over the coming months for the club.

Whilst he was utterly fantastic at times last season for the Owls, it is fair to say that Reach has yet to fully click into gear during the current campaign.

Yet having now been given some guidance from his new boss, the midfielder will unquestionably be determined to prove his worth in the Championship.
