Speaking to LUTV, Garry Monk has labelled Leeds United’s first-half performance against Reading as “uncharacteristic,” after the Whites suffered their first defeat since February.

Yann Kermorgant’s first-half strike was enough to seal a 1-0 victory for Reading, and his goal was one of a number of opportunities Leeds handed Jaap Stam’s side during the first 45 minutes.

Reading failed to capitalise on Leeds’ poor performance and were left defending their slender lead for large parts of the second-half.

Reflecting on Leeds’ performance, Monk was clear on where the game was lost, he said: “Too many uncharacteristic mistakes in the first-half, which really gave them opportunities.

“You can’t afford to make these mistakes at any level, if you make one or two, maybe you can get away with it, but four or five I think we made, and we got punished by one.”

The defeat saw the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off rivals switch positions, as Leeds moved down to fifth and Reading up to fourth.

Monk will be looking for a response from his side on Tuesday evening when the Whites travel to Griffin Park to face Brentford.

Leeds will be looking to increase the gap between themselves and seventh place, which was cut to just six points over the weekend.
