Birmingham have improved under Garry Monk, but they still struggle in front of goal.

The Blues have three wins in seven games since Monk joined, but the last two results have been disappointing because they drew with Burton even though they dominated and lost to Bristol City with similar issues.

The rest of the schedule isn't favourable either because they play local rivals Wolves as well as Sheffield United and Fulham.

QPR are the only team that they can realistically get a result against, although Fulham could already be promoted when they play them on the last day, which would be a huge benefit for Birmingham.

This is what Monk had to say about the recent games in his pre-match press conference, according to the Birmingham official site: "You are always working on technique and all those things - that’s something we are always doing."

"We have been a bit unlucky. You look at the Burton game for instance, it wasn’t really the execution"

"It’s not how many chances you create, it’s about taking them."

The Verdict

Monk has improved the team since joining and always appears to be looking for areas that he can improve even if it is just for marginal gains such as his work on set pieces.

These specific bits of work add up and could be the difference between going down and staying up, so Blues fans will be happy that Monk is in charge of their team rather than a rival. They will need a lot to go in their favour if they want to beat rivals Wolves in the next match, though, because the gulf in quality is vast.
