Sam Gallagher is unlikely to play, but Craig Gardner and Jonathan Grounds could make an appearance against Burton.

The Blues have a crucial clash against Burton coming up as they aim to expand the gap on Barnsley in 22nd place who play local rivals Sheffield United earlier on Saturday as the lunchtime kick off.

A win in this game would also potentially give them the chance to move ahead of Bolton and Reading in the table, which is beneficial because it gives them an extra bit of breathing room.

Here's what Monk had to say about injuries in his pre-match press conference, according to the official Birmingham site: "I don't think he'll make the weekend."

This was in regards to Gallagher.

He had this to say about Gardner:

"He's back training again and we'll just assess him, and we'll see how he is tomorrow, there's no big problem."

This is what he had to say about Grounds' recovery.

"He's trying to get up to full speed and he's pretty much there."

"Having him back in the squad is good for the group as well because he's a good character who's been here for a long time and he's another voice and experienced player who can help with the younger players."

The Verdict

Gardner and Grounds' imminent return is a big boost for the squad because they have been two of the best players this season in terms of consistency.

Gallagher's likely absence is a blow because of the injuries and suspensions they have in forward positions which means they are probably going to have to rely on Lukas Jutkiewicz who isn't the most prolific, although he did score the winner against Bolton.
