Birmingham City manager Garry Monk took to Twitter to praise the club's fans after the Blues notched their third win in a row thanks to a 2-1 win against Reading at St. Andrew's.

Goals from Gary Gardner and Lukasz Jutkiewicz in the second half secured the three points despite a late Royals resurgence, and Monk could not have been happier.

"Fantastic third win on the bounce, really happy for the boys," Monk wrote.

"Thanks for coming out in your numbers to again give us the St. Andrew's factor!"

With wins against Rotherham United and Stoke City preceding the Tuesday night clash, hopes were high of a third straight win.

After a goalless first half, it was the hosts who grabbed the initiative as Gardner fired home after latching onto a Michael Morrison knockdown.

Jutkiewicz headed in the second of the match 20 minutes from time, angling his shot brilliantly back across goal and into the top corner before Yakou Meite pulled a 90th-minute consolation back for the visitors.

The win put the club into within a point of the play-off places and will be hopeful of breaking into them on Saturday when they face Sheffield Wednesday.

The verdict

Garry Monk has been doing a terrific job at St. Andrew's.

After the summer they had it is remarkable how well the club have done both on the pitch and in winning around the fans again.

Their presence both home and away has been a real factor in driving the team on in each match and wins like last night's will only increase the following.
