Birmingham City boss Garry Monk has given his thoughts after the club's Championship survival was finally confirmed over the Easter weekend.

It has been a turbulent season for the Blues, but a draw and win over the bank holiday was enough to ensure that they would be plying their trade in the second-tier once again.

"It’s a good feeling, you can see that from the reaction from everyone," Monk told his pre-match press conference, according to the club's official Twitter account.

"The most important bit is knowing going into these last two games that we are not looking over our shoulder, and the huge pressure that comes from that, that’s a huge positive."

Monk's side were docked nine points back in March for breaking Financial Fair Play rules but a fine run of form has seen them steer well clear of danger.

A 2-2 draw with Derby County on Friday afternoon was followed by an impressive 3-1 victory away to relegation threatened Rotherham United on Easter Monday to open up a big enough gap to ensure survival.

This weekend sees them clash with Wigan Athletic as they too look to confirm their second-tier status.

The verdict

Monk has done a tremendous job at Birmingham this season and his stock as a manager must have risen significantly.

Many would have struggled to deal with the transfer embargo alone let alone a nine-point deduction.

For Monk to do so and keep spirits and performance levels so high in the process is remarkable.
