Birmingham City head coach Garry Monk has claimed that midfielder David Davis is still quite a way from returning to first team action following his injury.

According to Birmingham Live, the 27-year-old, who underwent surgery on his ankle during preseason, will not feature for some time at St Andrews.

Monk stated: “David’s still long term, how long we don't know, but definitely for the foreseeable future."

"He's not going to be up for selection. That was a hammer blow for us in the first couple of weeks of preseason. But like anything, we're very tight knit, we have to overcome that."

"Football wouldn't be football if it didn't have difficulties and setbacks and we've had quite a few setbacks here at the club but we're determined to fight through that and put ourselves onto a more upward curve than looking over our shoulders all the time."

Davis suffered the ankle injury during the first week of Birmingham City’s preseason training at the Trillion Trophy Training Centre.

The Verdict

The midfielder, who signed a new contract at St Andrews earlier this year, has made over 150 appearances for the Blues since signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2014, but will not be featuring again for some time.

It is a real blow for Garry Monk and his side, as Davis has the experience and knowledge to help the Blues gain points this season.

Monk will be hoping to have Davis at his disposal as soon as possible, having not won a single game in all competitions yet this season.
