Sky Sports's live blog (10:23am) reports that newly-appointed Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has Nottingham Forest forward Britt Assombalonga as his top transfer target this summer ahead of the 2017/18 Championship season.

The former Leeds United and Swansea City boss was confirmed the new man at the helm at Riverside last week and has the difficult ambition to fulfil of challenging for an instant return to the top-flight.

Monk seemingly views Assombalonga as the striker who can help guide Middlesbrough to the Premier League at the first time of asking, however, the 24-year-old has four years remaining on his current deal at the City Ground.

Having signed for Nottingham Forest from Peterborough United in 2014, the attacker has been plagued with injuries which have meant he's struggled to hit the ground running in the Midlands.

Meanwhile, after making a comeback for the second-half of last season, Britt Assombalonga bagged fourteen goals from 32 appearances in the league.

Garry Monk only has two forwards to work with on Teeside at this moment in time, in the shapes of Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford, following the expiration of last term's top goal scorer's Alvaro Negredo's loan.

Middlesbrough supporters, would you be happy if Britt Assombalonga led the attack for next season? What does he bring which you currently lack? Let us get your thoughts in the comment section below!
