Garry Monk has revealed he has seen a lot to be positive about during his first week as Birmingham City’s manager.

Taking to his personal Twitter account last night, Monk delivered a positive message, praising the people around the club and claiming he had seen a lot to like during his first week in-charge.

The Blues moved to replace Steve Cotterill with Monk last week, with the former Leeds and Middlesbrough boss tasked with guiding the club out of serious relegation trouble.

Monk hasn’t had the impact he might’ve hoped, with Birmingham suffering back-to-back defeats in his first two games – albeit against promotion-chasing Middlesbrough and Cardiff City.

Birmingham currently occupy the third relegation place ahead of the final nine fixtures, with Monk’s side sitting three points adrift of Barnsley and safety.

Saturday offers Monk another chance to get his first points on the board as Birmingham manager, with his side welcoming Hull City to St Andrew’s.

Hull have moved nine points ahead of Birmingham in the Championship table in recent weeks, with Monk’s side entering Saturday’s contest looking to claw another rival back into the relegation fight.

The Verdict

Monk has brought an air of positivity back to St Andrew’s since his arrival, however, Birmingham’s supporters are going to want to see some major improvements in the coming weeks.

Despite some more encouraging performances, Birmingham still find themselves in deep trouble and victory this weekend is so important.

If Hull pick up three points in Birmingham this weekend, they will pretty much be safe, whilst Birmingham will have one less rival they can pull into trouble.
