Garry Monk has revealed that David Davis is on the road to recovery, with his recent treatment going as well as could be hoped as per Birmingham Live.

The 27-year-old suffered a training ground injury in pre-season which has ruled him out for a good while, but Monk believes that he is on his way back to the first team fold.

He gave a cautious yet optimistic update on the midfielder, who has 167 appearances to his name for the Blues: “He is doing really well, the most important part of that is his early rehab, how it forms back together and the injury recuperates,” he said.

“At this moment in time he is back running on the AlterG treadmill, so it’s not full loading but it is still good loading and there have been no problems. The real test will be when he is fully loading when he is back out jogging on the pitches, which should be pretty soon."

Davis joined Birmingham from Wolves for a fee thought to be in the region of £150,000. He made just 61 appearances in his time at Molineux, with seven of those coming in the Premier League in the 2011/12 season.

Last season he represented Birmingham 38 times in the Championship, his last game coming in the 3-1 final day victory against Fulham.

The Verdict

Getting Davis back is incredibly important, he'll be like a new signing for Monk, something gratefully received considering he's unlikely to be active in the transfer market.

There's no need to rush Davis back, the Blues are going well and would be best advised to ease him in gently for maximum impact.
