Garry Monk has claimed that his Birmingham City side did not get the points that they deserved from their match away to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, reported the club's official website.

The Blues threw away a two-goal lead in the last 15 minutes after goals from Joe Lolley and Daryl Murphy cancelled out Lukasz Jutkiewicz's first-half opener and Che Adams' striker on the 71st minute.

"It's strange emotions you know," Monk told the club's official website.

"Once again I sit here completely proud of that performance, I am proud of the players and what they are doing."

Jutkiewicz gave the away side the lead just after 20 minutes, brilliantly looping a header back across goal and past Costel Pantillimon.

Adams doubled the lead and looked to have secured all three points in the 71st minute as his shot made it 2-0 via the help of a deflection.

But the game swung on the introduction of Forest winger Lolley who entered the play on the 75th minute and just seconds later had lashed home a brilliant strike to get Forest back into the game.

It was the 26-year-old's shot that was too hot to handle for Lee Camp in the Birmingham goal three minutes from time as well and Daryl Murphy was there to notch his second of the season to level the scores.

"We've come to a very good side and controlled the game as we wanted to do and played the game how we wanted to play it. We've done everything right and not got the points that we deserve."

The verdict

Monk is correct to an extent, in that Birmingham have played very well over their last few games and received little to show for it.

But he cannot keep deflecting blame from himself and his team by pinning it on bad luck. Saying they did not get the points they deserved is doing just that.

You deserve all three points if you are able to defend well enough and score enough. They were not capable of doing either.

So whilst the signs are promising for the Blues, there is still a lot of work to be done.
