New Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk has revealed that he would be open to bringing in some members of staff who worked with him at Birmingham City to Hillsborough.

The ex-Leeds chief was dismissed by Blues in the summer, with his former assistant Pep Clotet remaining at St. Andrew's and taking over as head coach.

As well as that, Sean Rush, Darryl Flahavan, Ryan Needs and James Beattie all remained at Birmingham, having gone with Monk after previously working for him at Middlesbrough.

And, when questioned by the possibility of bringing Beattie specifically to Yorkshire by the Sheffield Star, Monk made it clear it's something he would be interested in.

"We will have those discussions. Of course, if there is a chance to bring in one or two members of staff with me who know me and have worked with me and know how I work, we can hit the ground running as quickly as possible. It can help with time and I will look to do that."

Monk's first game in charge comes this Sunday at Huddersfield Town.

The Verdict

It's no surprise to see Monk say this, although it's going to be a challenge to get any of the individuals away from Birmingham as they all hold good positions under Clotet.

But, from Monk's perspective, he is going to want to work with people he knows and trusts, so there's no doubt he will be pushing the board to do all they can to bring some help in.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming days and weeks as it could leave Blues in a tricky position if Monk gets his way.
