West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry believes that he has 'unfinished business' with the club as he looks to help the side to promotion.

The experienced former England international rejoined Albion at the start of the month, entering what is his third season with the club.

And, whilst he has been one of the better performers over the years, it's been two years of failure, with relegation from the Premier League followed by a play-off semi-final defeat last season.

Barry was injured for the latter part of the previous campaign and he was badly missed and the 38-year-old admitted he is desperate to put things right now when speaking to the Express & Star.

"There is unfinished business. I joined the club in the Premier League and that really hurt to be a part of a relegation side. Last season I was desperate to try to put that right and nothing has changed since.

"It plays with your mind... ‘do you really want to do this, do you really want to get back?’ – it’s natural to have thoughts at my age, is it the right time to call it a day? But that was probably the easy option and I didn’t want to finish on an injury."

The ex-Everton man made his first appearance of the season last time out, impressing as a sub in the win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The verdict

This is a good message from Barry and shows that he really cares about the club and wants to end on a high.

He proved on Saturday that he still has a lot to offer at this level on the pitch and his influence in the dressing room can't be underestimated either on this squad.

So, it's now down to Barry and the rest of the team to continue their fine form as they push for promotion.
