Swansea City's former defender, Joe Rodon, had a helping hand from Gareth Bale in completing his move to Tottenham last week.

Rodon completed a late move in the domestic transfer window, signing for Tottenham from Swansea.

It's been revealed by The Athletic that Bale and his Spurs and Wales teammate, Ben Davies, had a big role in convincing the Tottenham hierarchy to part with a potential fee of £15m to land Rodon.

Quiz: Do Cardiff City and Swansea City have these 10 things in common?

Rodon, 22, is a Welsh international and has been thriving in the Swansea first-team. In total, he's made 54 senior appearances for the Welsh side before sealing a move to North London.

Prior to making that move, Rodon had featured in Swansea's opening four fixtures of the Championship season. He then headed out on international duty with Wales, lining up alongside Davies as Ryan Giggs' side picked up four points from their Nations League fixtures against Ireland and Bulgaria. Additionally, the defender featured in the defeat to England.

On the back of Swansea losing Rodon, Steve Cooper's side lost out to Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

The Verdict

It's no surprise to learn that Bale and Davies were pushing for Spurs to sign Rodon. It's exactly the type of signing that Spurs should be looking to make.

The defender has really come on with Swansea and he's got room to grow. Hopefully, Spurs offer him the chance to do that and he doesn't just become a back-up in North London.

With the right personnel around him in the changing room (Bale and Davies), Spurs can be confident they've got a player that can offer a lot.
