Garath McCleary reveals which former Reading team-mate he’d bring back to the club

It’s fair to say that it’s been a frustrating few seasons for Reading, who struggle in their bid to return to the Premier League one day.

Their last promotion-winning season in the Championship was back in the 2011/12 campaign, when they were managed by Brian McDermott, who guided them into the top-flight after a hugely impressive run of result since the turn of the year.

One player that played his part in that promotion-winning campaign was Garath McCleary, who scored nine goals and was on hand to provide six assists in his 23 appearances.

Reading’s stay in the Premier League was brief though, as they were relegated back into the Championship after just one season in the top-flight.

Speaking in a Q&A on his Instagram account, McCleary revealed that he would bring back Adam Le Fondre to the club if he was given the chance.

Le Fondre played a starring role for the Royals in their most recent campaign in the Premier League, and scored 15 goals in his 39 appearances for the Berkshire-based side.

Both McCleary and Le Fondre formed an impressive partnership on the pitch, and you could see that they worked well together, as they were a real threat going forward for the Royals.

McCleary is still playing his football with Reading, although he has struggled for game time with them, whilst Le Fondre is currently playing in Australia with Sydney FC. The forward has continued his strong run of form in front of goal as well, with Le Fondre having 18 goals to his name this season with the club.

WHO IS THE PLAYER?

The Verdict:

I’m not surprised to hear him want to play alongside Le Fondre if given the opportunity.

The former Royals striker made himself a firm fans favourite with the Madejski Stadium faithful and it was a shame to see him leave the club when he did.

I’m sure plenty of Reading supporters would welcome him back to the club if they were given the opportunity to land his signature.
