‘Game changer’, ‘Makes it look easy’ – These Ipswich fans hail player after starring in Doncaster drubbing

After many attempts, Ipswich Town finally got off the mark at home for the season – and they did it in the most emphatic way possible.

For a team with the squad they have on paper, being in 21st position was a catastrophic underachievement, even at this early stage of the season, and Paul Cook needed to find the solution fast if he wanted to get his side up the table and towards the promotion places.

It does now seem like he’s gone some way towards addressing some issues as lowly Doncaster Rovers found out just how ruthless the Tractor Boys can be on their day.

Quiz: Have Ipswich Town ever been involved in these 18 scenarios?

1. Had Greene King as their shirt sponsor

Town were 2-0 up at half-time through Macauley Bonne and Lee Evans goals but it was a period of the match between the 70th and 80th minutes where they ran absolutely rampant.

Another four goals were plundered in during those 10 minutes as Bonne netted again, George Edmundson got on the scoresheet and Evans scored another two to complete his hat-trick.

The drubbing of Rovers coincided with a debut for Sam Morsy, who was a late transfer window signing and one that looked like was needed.

Having completed a three-match ban, the Egypt international made his first appearance last night and immediately made an impression whilst also taking the captain’s armband, and fans have been hailing his first performance in the blue shirt.
