Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has sent a message to his old club as they prepare to take on West Brom in the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs.

Agbonlahor spent his entire career with the West Midlands club, making over 400 appearances, before leaving the club last summer and officially hanging up his puts in March.

Posting to Instagram, and alongside a team photo of the current squad, the 32-year-old wrote: "Good luck @avfcofficial for the play offs ????????????"

Dean Smith takes his side into the play-offs having lost just once in their last 12 matches, a run that included a club record ten consecutive wins.

Both themselves and West Bromwich Albion come into the clash off the back of losses on the final day of the season, however.

Villa were beaten 2-1 by Norwich City as the Canaries fought for the Championship title whilst the Baggies were beaten 3-1 by Derby County as the Rams made their top-six spot safe.

The verdict

I am a massive fan of how close to the club Agbonlahor has stayed.

He is Villa through and through and the fans, players and staff are all well aware of that, so you can bet he will be at both legs of the semi-final as well as the final if they get there.

It really is a fascinating scrap and this probably the hardest tie to call.
