Marcelo Bielsa will insist that the Leeds United players start pre-season early if he lands the managerial job at Elland Road, which looks increasingly likely.

The Argentinian, who has a great reputation in the game, is the favourite for the job and reports suggested his appointment could be confirmed by the end of the week.

And, the Yorkshire Evening Post have revealed that the players have already been warned that should Bielsa get the job then they will have to start pre-season a week earlier than expected.

Initially, the squad were expected to be off until June 25, which gave them three weeks preparation before their first friendly.

However, the report states that Bielsa would look to get to work almost straight away, calling the players back to Thorp Arch for training next Monday if he does get the job.

That isn't too surprising given the emphasis he places on work on the training pitch. The former Marseille boss is known to have very specific methods that he will want to get across to the players.

The Verdict

This makes sense if Bielsa is appointed and the fans will be glad to hear that he wants to get down to work straight away.

Bielsa's style is going to take a lot of working on and the players might not grasp his ideas immediately so it's vital he gets as much time as possible to work with them before August.

Whilst it's cutting their holidays short, all Leeds players should be relishing the chance to work with such a respected figure in the game and show that they should be part of his future plans.
