Wolves are likely to recall Dion Sanderson from his loan spell at Birmingham City in the January window to ease their defensive issues.
The 21-year-old joined Blues on a season-long loan in the summer and he has excelled for Lee Bowyer's side in the Championship, featuring in 11 league games so far.
However, part of the agreement saw Wanderers have a recall option in the New Year, and The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has indicated that Wolves are 'leaning towards' activating that.
That's because Bruno Lage is dealing with several issues defensively right now, with Yerson Mosquera and Willy Boly out for lengthy periods whilst Romain Saiss is going to the African Cup of Nations with Morocco in January.
Even though Sanderson could be recalled, the update doesn't rule out the prospect of the youngster returning to Blues before the window shuts, although he would still miss several fixtures in January if that's the case.
The immediate focus for the defender will be Birmingham though, with Sanderson expected to be in the XI for the trip to Millwall this weekend.
The verdict
There's no denying that this would be a big blow for Bowyer, even if it was only for a month, as Sanderson has brought a lot to the team with his pace and quality at the back.
Of course, this is always the risk with loan players and you can understand why Wolves want to bring the player back when you look at the problems they have at the back.
So, Blues must have plans in place and it will be interesting to see what does happen with Sanderson next month.
