Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has told the Peterborough Telegraph that Steven Benda has taken a pay cut in order to join the club from Swansea City.

The Posh yesterday completed the signing of the 23-year-old goalkeeper on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the German moving to the club in search of first team football.

Benda had previously fallen down the pecking order at his parent club, losing his place as the club's number one goalkeeper to Ben Hamer at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Now it has been revealed by MacAnthony that Benda took great sacrifices in order to ensure the deal went through yesterday as he arrived at Peterborough:

"This lad took a pay cut & agent (also took) a pay cut on future agent fees to come to us & make wages work within our budget. Love seeing that kind of commitment from young footballers."

Benda has featured seven times this season for Swansea across all competitions and will now be seeking to increase his game time with his new side.

The keeper could make his debut for the Posh this weekend when they take on Coventry City in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Verdict

This could prove to be a very good signing for Peterborough moving forwards and this news about the pay cut certainly underlines Benda's commitment to the cause.

He will now be looking to establish himself as his new club's number o0ne choice between the sticks after being somewhat frozen out at Swansea.

Still aged just 23, there is still a lot of time ahead for the German to improve his all round game as a keeper.

Getting regualr minutes under his belt again will be crucial if he is to realise the obvious potential that he has as a goalkeeper moving forwards.
