Frank Lampard will be named as the new Chelsea manager in the next two days after holding positive talks with owner Roman Abramovich.

The current Derby manager has been widely expected to take over at Stamford Bridge after holding talks with the Premier League side, with the Blues on the lookout for a successor to Maurizio Sarri following his decision to join Juventus.

Yet, despite Lampard's return expected to be imminent, it still hasn't been officially announced.

However, Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has revealed that the move will definitely go ahead and should be confirmed by Thursday in what will be a dream return to the Londoners for the 41-year-old who enjoyed a brilliant playing career with the club.

That's after Chelsea's all-time leading scorer got the assurances he wanted from the Russian billionaire on his plans for the club once they are no longer under a transfer embargo and his long-term vision for the Europa League winners.

Lampard has only had one year in management which came with Derby as he took the Rams to the play-off final last season.

Dorsett added that the east Midlands outfit will move for former PSV boss Phillip Cocu to replace the former England international and that talks have been 'positive' with the Dutchman.

The Verdict

Derby fans will be glad to see this saga is coming to an end and whilst they will be sad to see Lampard go, the reality is that they've known it's going to happen for a while now.

So, all the club can do is make sure they get the right package for the manager and any backroom staff that follow him to Stamford Bridge.

Then, they have to have a successor lined up and it would appear that Cocu is the man they want and he would be an exciting appointment.

All of this should be confirmed in the coming days and it's vital it's concluded quickly because the next Rams chief needs to start work ahead of the season starting in August.
