Sheffield Wednesday could still yet sign defender Johan Djourou, according to today's print edition of the Sun, via a report by HITC.

The deal for the 30-year-old seemed to be dead in the water yesterday, with the Owls failing to meet the demands of the former Arsenal defender.

However, it now appears that Wednesday could be set to offer the Swiss international defender £30k a week to ensure they complete a deal for Djourou following yesterdays miserable 1-0 defeat to Preston North End at Deepdale.

Wednesday have been trying to sign a new defender all summer with only Tom Lees and Glen Loovens as recognised first choice central defenders at Hillsborough.

Djourou would add some much needed experience and class to the Owls squad if they can complete the signing of the Hamburg man.

The big defender made his name with Arsenal in the Premier League but failed to hold down a place with the Gunners and was moved on by manager Arsene Wenger. He impressed last season for the German club though, and could well become the next big money signing made by Owls manager Carlos Carvalhal.
