Burnley are edging closer to securing a deal for Southampton winger Nathan Tella, it appears, with the 23-year-old reportedly undergoing a medical with the club.

That is according to the Burnley Express, who also report that the move is set to be a temporary one, rather than a permanent deal.

News of Tella's move to Turf Moor first broke yesterday evening via The Telegraph's Mike McGrath.

McGrath tweeted that the Clarets were set to get one over on several of their division rivals, beating a host of Championship club's in securing Tella's services.

Burnley have undergone a significant rebuild under new boss Vincent Kompany this summer, with a number of key players having departed following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

As a result of that, it has been a busy summer in terms of recruitment, with 10 new arrivals having headed to Turf Moor in the last couple of months.

Tella would be the 11th new addition in that sense, with the Clarets also reportedly targeting further reinforcements having been linked with Rangers forward Fashion Sakala.

Nathan Tella has racked up 41 first team appearances on the south coast since joining Southampton's youth set up back in 2017.

33 of those outings came in the Premier League, with Tella having scored once and laid on two assists in the top flight.

The Verdict

It looks as though this is a deal that is going to get done for Burnley.

With the arrival of Benson last week, Vincent Kompany has already strengthened his wide options and the arrival of Tella would give the Belgian another quality option on the flanks.

With the club also seeking further attacking reinforcements, it could take some time for the Clarets' plentiful options to gel in attack.

When they do, though, they have the potential to be very dangerous in the final third, and it will certainly be exciting to see how Kompany harnesses the talent of Tella and the other Burnley attackers.
