Peter Kenyon is involved in a late bid to takeover Championship strugglers Bolton, according to the Sun.

The 65-year-old, who is well known in the football world having worked for Manchester United and Chelsea before, had been behind a potential deal to buy Premier League Newcastle from Mike Ashley.

However, that collapsed over the past few days and the Sun report states that he has now turned his attention to Bolton, who are in a desperate situation right now.

The training ground was closed on Monday as their financial troubles build, with businessman Parminder Basram unable to complete a deal for the Trotters as had been expected last week.

Whilst this news is optimistic for Wanderers fans who want owner Ken Anderson out, Kenyon will still have to agree a deal with him.

As well as that, the family of late owner Eddie Davies will also have to come to an agreement with the prospective buyer.

Kenyon is likely to have been backed by several investors, although the report explains the identity of those involved with him is not known.

The Verdict

At this stage Bolton fans will just want the club sold because they desperately need to get rid of Anderson.

The way the club has been operating recently has been embarrassing, so any change will be welcome right now.

Over the coming days you would imagine more news will come out about who is behind this deal with Kenyon and the level of ambition they have for the Championship side, who will surely be in the third-tier next season.
