Leeds United’s squad for their post-season trip to Myanmar has been confirmed, with the club’s academy players featuring heavily in the 22-man squad.

The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay has confirmed who features in the 22-man squad, who will travel to Myanmar for two friendlies this week in what has proved to be a controversial tour.

First-team players like Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Luke Ayling, Ronaldo Vieira, Kalvin Phillips, Samu Saiz and Caleb Ekuban are amongst those travelling, along with Andy Lonergan and Jay-Roy Grot.

The rest of Paul Heckingbottom’s squad is made up of academy players, including Paudie O’Connor, Tom Pearce and Ryan Edmondson, who have been blooded in Leeds’ first-team in recent weeks.

Highly-rated Jack Clarke and Oriol Rey are also in Heckingbottom’s squad, alongside players they have played with in the under-23s and under-18s this season.

The likes of Pontus Jansson, Pablo Hernandez, Ezgjan Alioski, Kemar Roofe, Adam Forshaw and Liam Cooper aren’t travelling.

Other notable absentees including Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who is expected to return to Germany this summer following a loan move, Eunan O’Kane, Hadi Sacko, Felix Wiedwald and Pawel Cibicki.

Leeds are in action against a MNL All Star Team on May 9th, before taking on Myanmar’s National Team on May 11th.

The Verdict

It’s very little surprise to see young players dominating Leeds’ squad this week.

However, some of the absentees, including the likes of Wiedwald, Sacko and O’Kane, are a surprise.

Football doesn’t appear to be the reason behind Leeds’ trip to Myanmar, but it will give Heckingbottom an opportunity to hand a chance to players like Ayling, who have been absent recently due to injury.
