Leeds Unitedâs squad for their post-season trip to Myanmar has been confirmed, with the clubâs academy players featuring heavily in the 22-man squad. Â
The Yorkshire Evening Postâs Phil Hay has confirmed who features in the 22-man squad, who will travel to Myanmar for two friendlies this week in what has proved to be a controversial tour.
First-team players like Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Luke Ayling, Ronaldo Vieira, Kalvin Phillips, Samu Saiz and Caleb Ekuban are amongst those travelling, along with Andy Lonergan and Jay-Roy Grot.
The rest of Paul Heckingbottomâs squad is made up of academy players, including Paudie OâConnor, Tom Pearce and Ryan Edmondson, who have been blooded in Leedsâ first-team in recent weeks.
Highly-rated Jack Clarke and Oriol Rey are also in Heckingbottomâs squad, alongside players they have played with in the under-23s and under-18s this season.
The likes of Pontus Jansson, Pablo Hernandez, Ezgjan Alioski, Kemar Roofe, Adam Forshaw and Liam Cooper arenât travelling.
Other notable absentees including Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who is expected to return to Germany this summer following a loan move, Eunan OâKane, Hadi Sacko, Felix Wiedwald and Pawel Cibicki.
Leeds are in action against a MNL All Star Team on May 9th, before taking on Myanmarâs National Team on May 11th.
The Verdict Â
Itâs very little surprise to see young players dominating Leedsâ squad this week.
However, some of the absentees, including the likes of Wiedwald, Sacko and OâKane, are a surprise.
Football doesnât appear to be the reason behind Leedsâ trip to Myanmar, but it will give Heckingbottom an opportunity to hand a chance to players like Ayling, who have been absent recently due to injury.
