Birmingham City are still awaiting international clearance in order to be able to play former Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero, the club have revealed.

The Ecuadorian completed his move to St. Andrew's on August 8 but has yet to have received international clearance allowing him to play, although he travelled with the squad to Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Last season saw Montero score once and assist three more across games with both Swansea and a loan spell with West Bromwich Albion.

Prior to their weekend loss at the City Ground, Birmingham had made an impressive start to the season, beating promotion hopefuls Brentford at Griffin Park before taking a point from Bristol City at St. Andrew's.

On Wednesday they welcome Barnsley to the West Midlands as they look to bounce back from that defeat.

They will now be looking to inflict a second defeat of the season on Daniel Stendel's side, who have won one, drawn one and lost one so far this season.

However, the Tykes have a good record against Birmingham, staying unbeaten in their last five clashes, winning three of the last four meetings at St. Andrew's as well.

The verdict

This will surely be starting to irritate Pep Clotet.

Montero will have now missed two games since arriving at the club and it is starting to look a bit odd from the outside, that this deal is still yet to be completed.

There is no question that his presence would be very welcome in the Blues squad as well with a host of injury problems hindering Clotet.
