Sheffield Wednesday are likely to be without Aden Flint until mid-January at the earliest as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The dominant centre-back joined the Owls for the season back in October, however he suffered the setback in just his fourth game, going off after 16 minutes into a defeat at Rotherham.

That was a major setback for the player, and the club, with Wednesday short on options at centre-back right now.

Whilst it was clear that Flint would be out for a relatively lengthy period, Yorkshire Live reporter Dom Howson has shared a realistic timeframe on when the 31-year-old may return.

"Aden Flint has undergone hamstring surgery but remains a long way off a first-team return. I can't see him being ready for first-team duty until mid to late January."

Having missed the last seven games already, this news means that Flint is going to miss at least another eight before he returns.

Wednesday have suffered in his absence, winning just once, with new boss Tony Pulis yet to record a victory from his first four in charge.

The verdict

Firstly, you have to say that this is a major blow for Flint, as he is going to end up having missed almost a third of the season.

From Wednesday's perspective, it's far from ideal as well. He is the sort of leader at the back that the team need, and whilst they have plenty of centre-back's, many are injured right now.

So, they just have to get by until January and it will be interesting to see how Pulis reshapes the squad in the window.
