Nottingham Forest remain keen on securing a late deal for Sheffield United's Luke Freeman although the transfer could depend on the Blades bringing in a new midfielder.

The 27-year-old only moved to the Yorkshire side in the summer but he has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Chris Wilder, featuring in just nine league games and the majority of those appearances have come as a sub.

So, the chance to move to the high-flying Reds may appeal and the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (12:58) confirmed Forest are still chasing Freeman.

However, the report also states that the Premier League side don't want to leave themselves short in midfield and could let Ravel Morrison depart instead.

Therefore, they may only sanction a deal for Freeman if a replacement is found and the Blades are hoping to secure the signature of Sander Berge from Genk.

If Forest did bring in Freeman, they would be landing someone proven at this level, with the ex-Stevenage man proving himself to be a top player in the second tier with Bristol City and QPR over the years.

Where did these 15 Nottingham Forest players sign from?

The verdict

This highlights just how tough it can be to get deals done in the January transfer window and there is a lot of reliance on things falling into place elsewhere.

That appears to be the case here and Forest will be hoping that Sheffield United secure a midfielder a Freeman would be a major coup for the Reds.

He is a classy player and would add a lot to the team in the final third with his vision and ability to open up a defence.

Now, it's about being patient and seeing if the transfer can go through before Friday's deadline.
