Tottenham are going to push forward with plans to sign Joe Rodon before Friday’s deadline as they seek to reach an agreement with Swansea City.
Spurs’ interest in the Welsh international has been known for some time, however the two clubs are way apart on their valuation of the 22-year-old, with reports emerging last week claiming the Premier League side wanted to pay £7m, whereas Swansea are demanding at least £18m.
Whilst there’s no guarantee that a deal will be agreed, the Telegraph have revealed that Spurs will ‘step up’ their pursuit of Rodon, suggesting they are confident that they can make a breakthrough in the coming days.
Jose Mourinho’s side may not have a free run at Rodon though, as The Sun have stated that Leicester have joined the race for the ball-playing centre-back, which will help Swansea’s position as they try and demand a big fee.
It remains to be seen who will win the race for Rodon but any interested club has until 5pm on Friday to finalise this transfer or he will stay with the Welsh side until January at the earliest.
Swansea face a huge battle to keep hold of Rodon and it has to be a major worry considering his importance to the team.
Ultimately, money will talk and if a suitable offer comes forward then you can see Swansea accepting but they are right to stand firm if Spurs don’t pay up.
So, it will be a very interesting few days and Leicester’s supposed interest could help the Championship side drive the price up.
