Further details have emerged after the news broke that Huddersfield Town had struck a deal with Lincoln City's Danny Cowley to become their new manager, reports David Anderson of The Mirror.

Cowley reportedly rejected the chance to move to the Yorkshire club to begin with and was reluctant to leave Sincil Bank, but a meeting with owner Phil Hodgkinson over the weekend was apparently enough to change his mind with an announcement now expected imminently.

It also means his first match will be against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, a club who were also interested in bringing in the Lincoln boss, eventually settling for Garry Monk instead.

Cowley has been in charge of the Imps since the summer of 2016, seeing the club promoted from the National League to League One in that time, taking them on a number of impressive cup runs in the process.

The most notable of which came in the 2016/17 season when they made it to the quarter finals of the FA Cup, eventually succumbing to Arsenal at the Emirates, the same year they were promoted back to the Football League.

Lincoln had made a very quick start to life in the third-tier as well under Cowley, winning four and losing three of their opening seven matches.

The verdict

A lot of credit has to go to Hodgkinson here.

He clearly wanted Cowley and nobody else, so I think the fans should be grateful that he has clearly put in a lot of work to persuade him to come to the John Smiths Stadium.

Cowley has proved illusive to rival clubs for years now, but he has finally been tempted away and it will be very interesting to see how he does.
