Sheffield Wednesday full-back Liam Palmer is set to commit his long-term future to the Owls by signing a new contract.

The Scotland international's previous deal at Hillsborough expired in the summer but it had been hoped that he would agree to extending his stay in Yorkshire.

And, according to Football Insider, the two parties have come to an agreement which will see the 27-year-old stay at the club for the years to come. Palmer came through the ranks for the Owls and has played over 200 times since.

He featured prominently under Steve Bruce after the experienced boss came in earlier this year, with his versatility an impressive aspect of his game, as Palmer is capable of playing down either flank.

Providing this does go through it will be another bit of good news for Wednesday who announced earlier today that keeper Keiren Westwood has put speculation over his future to bed by signing a two-year deal with the club.

Palmer is currently with the Owls in Portugal as they gear up for the new season.

The Verdict

The defender hasn't always been a favourite with the fans at Wednesday but this is good news as he can do a job in the Championship.

As well as that, he is clearly someone that Bruce rates and ultimately it's his opinion that counts so he will be pleased that this deal is close to completion.

From the players perspective, Wednesday appear like a club on the up right now so the chance to sign up for the years to come was surely a no-brainer.

Given that, it's a deal that suits all parties and is another boost for the club after the Westwood news.
