Sheffield Wednesday will be without Aden Flint for a couple of months, with Garry Monk offering an update on the defender's injury situation.

Flint hobbled out of last week's 3-0 defeat to Rotherham United after only 17 minutes, with a hamstring injury his issue.

A note from the club earlier in the week confirmed that Flint was set for an operation on his hamstring, with the injury worse than first feared from a Wednesday perspective.

Monk has been talking to the press today where he confirmed (via Yorkshire Live) that it was going to be a couple of months on the sidelines for his on loan defender, who is now in the rehab phase.

The Wednesday boss said: "He is in the rehab phase. We are not talking short-term.

"A couple of months (out). We will assess him as we go along."

Flint had made four appearances for Wednesday since arriving from Cardiff City, but is now set to miss a key period of the season, as Monk's side look to claw their way out of the Championship's relegation zone.

A midweek win over Bournemouth has filled the Owls with confidence and, yesterday, it was also confirmed that their 12-point deduction had been halved. That's moved them onto five points and given them an outside chance of moving out of the relegation zone ahead of the November international break.

The Verdict

This is a blow.

A few months without Flint is not the news that Garry Monk will have been hoping for on the injury front. He's a top Championship defender and to lose him for, arguably, the most important part of the season is devastating.

It does coincide with more positive news for the Owls, but if you look at the injury on the face of things, it's quite the blow for the Owls.

Others will have to step up to make sure Wednesday don't suffer.
