James Maddison has moved to congratulate Ryan Sessegnon, after the Fulham teenager claimed a host of accolades at the EFL Awards on Sunday evening.

Sessegnon claimed the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year award, alongside the Young Player of the Year.

The Fulham teenager was also named in the Team of the Season and Club Developed XI, as well as being recognised as Apprentice of the Year.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a fine season at Craven Cottage, which was rewarded at Sunday’s ceremony, with Sessegnon heading back to Craven Cottage with five awards.

Maddison joined Sessegnon in the Team of the Season after a fine year with Norwich City, and moved to congratulate his counterpart on his impressive award tally via his personal Twitter account:

Sessegnon has 14 goals and six assists to his name this season, playing a major role in helping Fulham into automatic promotion contention ahead of the final three fixtures of the season.

Whilst Sessegnon has been helping Fulham into promotion contention, Maddison’s incredible form hasn’t been enough to help Norwich compete for the top-six, with the Canaries heading for a mid-table finish.

Maddison has 14 Championship goals to his name this season, along with a further eight assists.

The Verdict

Maddison’s message to Sessegnon is classy, with the Norwich midfielder appreciating what a fine year the 17-year-old has had across the Championship.

The duo have previously linked up with England’s under-21s, which earlier in the year was a reward for some fine form in the Championship.

Next season, both could potentially be plying their trade in the Premier League.
