‘Full on mocking us now’ – These Sunderland fans not impressed as Bordeaux’s message makes them a ‘laughing stock’

Bordeaux sent a cheeky message to Sunderland via Twitter after Josh Maja’s hattrick last night, which has left many Black Cats fans unimpressed.

On the back of scoring 16 goals in the first half of last season, the 20-year-old left Sunderland to join the French club for a reported fee of £3.5 million in January.

Maja’s first-team opportunities have been intermittent since, with the majority of his appearances this season coming from the bench.

However, the Nigerian striker made just his third start of the league campaign last night and played a starring role in Bordeaux’s 6-0 win against Ligue 1 rivals Nimes–scoring a hattrick and adding an assist.

The French club Tweeted at the Black Cats from their official account following his third goal.

As Maja’s contract at Sunderland was set to expire in the summer, Bordeaux signed the striker for what looks a real bargain.

To add insult to injury, the League One club brought Will Grigg in as a replacement but the Northern Irishman has been a disappointment so far.

Sunderland’s trio of strikers, Grigg, Marc McNulty, and Charlie Wyke, have got just four league goals between them this season, which is the same number that Maja has added in his three starts in Ligue 1.

Many Black Cats fans did not appear impressed by the French club’s cheeky message and took to Twitter to express their thoughts.
