Fulham are starting to ramp up their transfer business now as they aim to go into the start of the new Championship season with as strong a squad as possible.

It had been a slow start to the summer for Fulham with much of the focus having been on the future of Scott Parker who eventually left for Bournemouth with Marco Silva promptly brought into replace him.

There would have been a fear that they would not have left themselves enough time to strengthen the squad sufficiently for the start of the campaign.

However, Fulham have managed to now finally add players to their squad with both former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga and Liverpool’s Harry Wilson arriving at Craven Cottage over the weekend. Those two additions will raise hopes that they can have another real go at getting promoted next season.

Fulham set to win the race for Matt Grimes’ signature with medical scheduled

Alongside the addition of Wilson, Fulham are also closing in on a major transfer coup with the Daily Mail reporting that Swansea City midfielder Matt Grimes is closing in on a move to Craven Cottage.

It is believed by the Daily Mail that he will be set to undergo a medical ahead of joining Silva’s side this summer in the next week in what could be an excellent piece of business for them.

Grimes has been a player in-demand this summer with both Newcastle United and Southampton having been linked with a potential move for him. While there have also been reports that Bournemouth were also rivaling Fulham in the pursuit of the midfielder.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail’s report reveals that one-time Fulham managerial target Steve Cooper saw the impending departure of Grimes to Craven Cottage as a key motivator behind his decision to quit the Welsh club this summer.

It had been widely reported that Wilson had secured a permanent move to Fulham this summer with a fee of around £10 to £12 million thought to have been agreed with Liverpool for his signature.

The Wales international’s arrival has demonstrated that Fulham do have aspirations of challenging strongly for promotion from the Championship under Silva this season.

However, according to a report from The Sun reporter Tom Barclay, Fulham have signed Wilson not on a permanent deal but instead on an initial loan deal.

It is believed that the deal with Liverpool includes an obligation to buy the 24-year-old next summer if certain conditions are met with a fee of around £9 million having been set.

Although it is thought that could rise to £12 million based on performances related add-ons that could be activated next term.
