After releasing nine players following their relegation to the Championship, The Cottagers are seeking reinforcements. They see Ipswich striker McGoldrick, who scored 16 goals last season, as the man to lead their front line.

It is thought that Premier League clubs Swansea and Crystal Palace were interested in the 26 year-old in January but a deal never materialised. The striker joined The Tractor Boys last summer after his release from Nottingham Forest. He signed a two year deal which is understood to contain the option for a further season.

The striker who pledged his international allegiance to the Republic of Ireland will start pre-season training in a few weeks after being ruled out since February with a knee injury.
