Fulham have seen their offer to sign Flamengo forward Rodrigo Muniz on a loan-to-buy deal rejected by the Brazilian club who are only wanting a permanent exit this summer, according to Brazilian outlet O Dia.
It was reported by O Dia that Fulham had made an offer of around €1 million (£856,000) to take him on loan for the campaign.
While Marco Silva’s side were also thought to have included a fixed permanent offer of around €9 million (£7.7 million) that would have come into force next summer.
However, according to the latest report from O Dia, Flamengo have now decided to turn down that offer and they are only wanting to sort out a permanent deal for the 20-year-old this summer, rather than allowing him to leave on loan for the campaign.
22 things all Fulham fans simply must know – But do you?
The report adds that Muniz is interested in the approach after holding talks with Fulham. It also reveals that Al Nasr have entered the race for the forward and have managed to agree personal terms with the 20-year-old.
It is believed that Flamengo are going to ask for around €8 million (£6.8 million) to make the move happen this summer.
This is a major blow for Fulham and Silva will be frustrated that his side now might miss out on the signing of a key transfer target.
It remains to be seen whether they will be able to come in with a straight permanent offer for Muniz this summer, but there will have been a reason why they were wanting to agree a loan-to-buy deal for him as opposed to a straight permanent one.
Silva clearly feels that Muniz is a player he can work with and develop in a similar way that he managed to do with Richarlison at Watford and then Everton.
If he could be as big of a hit as the forward has been in England then Fulham should just back their manager and do what they can to make sure that he arrived on a permanent deal.
It seems that Al Nasr could be edging ahead in the race for Muniz and Fulham will have to now step up their interest in the 20-year-old or risk losing him. In a few years, they might look back on this situation with regret if they opt against a permanent transfer this summer for him.
