Fulham boss Kit Symons has stepped up his attempts to bring a central defender to Craven Cottage after placing a bid of £1.75m for Brentford defender James Tarkowski.

Get West London is reporting that a bid has been made by the Cottagers with Symons looking to bolster his defence ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.

Only Blackpool, who finished bottom of the Championship last season, shipped more goals than Fulham and it is an area which Symons is keen to address.

Tarkowski helped the Bees into the Championship play-off’s last season and would be a solid addition to the Whites squad.

Despite some high-profile errors towards the back end of last season, Tarkowski is rated-highly by the club’s hierarchy and they could demand closer to £3m for their player.

Since joining the Bees from Oldham, Tarkowski has made 47 appearances for the Griffin Park outfit and netted three goals.

Symons has already had bids rejected for Wolves defender Richard Stearman and Derby County skipper Richard Keogh.
