Fulham had a disastrous campaign last year and it began before a ball was kicked.

Countless millions were spent on players who did not deliver on the potential they offered, namely Jean Michael Seri and Alfie Mawson - but Andre Zambo Anguissa was arguably the biggest waste of time and resources.

He signed from Marseille for an extortionate £22m. Naturally Fulham fans were excited by the prospect of a new look midfield that would have bite and finesse - but Anguish provided neither.

He barely featured and when he did he was not up to Premier League standard. Even worse, Fulham paid £1m for each one, given he only totalled 22 Premier League appearances.

The Cottagers are now looking to sell the 23-year-old according to French outlet FootMercato, and in this FLW Six Point Opinion we look back on his spell in South London.

Why hasn't it worked out for him at Fulham?

"He simply hasn't put enough effort in, and that has been costly for both him and Fulham.

"Added to that, he hasn't adjusted to the pace of English football and too often loses his man or is unable to deal with a fast break. He has shown his passing ability but too often has lacked concentration and his attacker has got the better of him.

"Another reason is the lack of stability at the club. There were three different managers in charge last season and he never got a proper run in the team under any of them. The whole team was changed constantly throughout the season, and it is difficult for players if there is no continuity in the team."

Is he not worth keeping for the Championship?

"He would be too much of a gamble next season.

"There is no guarantee his performances would improve and he could seem disinterested due to no longer playing in the top-tier. His attitude hasn't been the best since he arrived and Scott Parker won't want a player in the squad disrupting harmony.

"On the other hand, he should in theory be one of the better players in the Championship given his price tag. He impressed at Marseille and definitely has something to offer, but it is a shame that Fulham will likely never see the best of him."

What should Fulham do with the money they receive for him?

"If they sell both him and Seri then they will need to bring in another midfielder. Tom Cairney and Kevin McDonald are good Championship players but they need a midfielder who can get goals, so that is one priority.

"There are a few other players who could depart too such as Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksander Mitrovic, so Fulham need to bring in proven Championship quality. A player like Dwight Gayle would be a terrific addition.

"Fulham's biggest problem last season was conceding goals, and much of that was because of the lack of protection offered by players like Anguissa. Brining in a defensive minded midfielder is also vital."

Which other players should Fulham try and get rid of ahead of the new season?

"Jean Michael Seri is another player whose head dropped when things weren't going well last season and Parker can't afford that next season.

"It would also be surprising if Kamara sticks around next season. He did well in the Championship before but seemed to fall out of favour last year and ended up on loan at Yeni Malatyaspor, where he didn't have the best of times either."

"Given Fulham's defence shipped 81 goals last season they could look to offload Alfie Mawson or Maxime Le Marchand, who will likely attract attention either in the Premier League or abroad."

Can the club expect to get back what they paid for Anguissa?

"It would be a very difficult ask to get more than £20 million for him given his underwhelming performances last season.

"Marseille could come back in for him but they will likely offer below what they sold him for because they know Fulham will want to see.

"Fulham should cut their losses and sell him for anything above £10m. If he sits in the reserves his value will decline further and Fulham could do a lot more with £10m than an unwanted player."

How can Fulham learn from this transfer?

"Firstly, they should have placed more trust in the players who were instrumental in getting them up in the first place.

"They should also sign players who know the Championship/Premier League. That is a better guarantee of how they will turn out for Fulham. Players like Anguissa, who has never played outside of France, are a risk and can end in disaster.

"Fulham went wrong by brining in too many players at once, they didn't gel and ended up as expensive mistakes. Fortunately for Fulham they aren't paying Anguissa too much money, as that could be costly long-term for the club."
