Fulham set to seal deal for Premier League player

Southampton left-back Matt Targett is set to join Championship side Fulham in a loan-switch that will see the defender play at Craven Cottage for the next six-months, according to The Sun

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic has been lining-up a replacement for left-back Ryan Sessegnon as Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs continue to be linked with a move for the defender.

The Southampton defender has already proved his Premier League credentials after making a flurry of appearances in the Saints campaign last time out. But since the start of this season, the 22-year-old has struggled to force a regular place with the impressive Ryan Bertrand keeping him at bay.

Indeed, the Saints defender has seen himself stagnate under the guidance of Mauricio Pellegrino this campaign, with only 2 appearances in the Premier League to show for the left-back.

After being awarded the Young Player of the Year award from the 2014-15 season, Matt Targett will be hoping that a successful loan spell at Craven Cottage will reward him with a regular place back in the Southampton side.

The verdict

Would be a very good replacement for Sessegnon.

Matt Targett has already shown his worth in the Premier League and on an international level, as a player that consistently provides performances of the highest-order.

Offering the same attacking flare that Ryan Sessegnon provides down the left, the ability to get forward into crossing positions will go along way to replicating the efforts of their current left-back.

Nevertheless, a good addition with a player who’s hungry to succeed and prove his parent club wrong.
